Alien Lover

The Autumn 2012 issue of Shelter of Daylight published my sci-fi poem Alien Lover.

Alien Lover
by John Hayes

 The host planet spins
in a wheel-shaped galaxy.

In a field of clover
Earthwoman dreams
beneath a crescent moon.

Tired from play
two hybrid children
snuggle in their mother's warmth.
She wakes to the roar of a flying saucer
patiently watches it settle to the ground.

Children rush to greet their father
he lifts them in his arms
kisses them caringly
and swings them to the ground.

 As they prance impatiently
he searches his pouches
finds gifts from a far away world.

 His single horn sparkling
he bounds to where
Earthwoman waits
for her lover's long absent kiss.
