Spiders
in His Bed
by
John Hayes
Billy
wakes, frightened by his dream
two
spiders crawl across his face
he
smashes them with his open hand
their
innards seek his mouth.
He
leaps from bed
washes
his face in tepid water
a
black spider dangles on the mirror
he
smashes it with his open hand.
Back
to his bed
three
spiders scurry on the sheets.
he
finds a spray
and
blasts them dead.
Asleep
again
red
spiders dangle in his dream
while
real spiders spin a web
about
his feet
